Snow Plow Driver and Push Box Operator
Snow · Seasonal · Columbus, OH
The Role
We are hiring experienced snow plow drivers and push box operators for our commercial snow and ice program. Depending on your experience, you will drive a company plow truck on an assigned route of commercial properties, or run a skid steer, backhoe or wheel loader with a push box on our larger lots. You will work with our sidewalk crews so that each property is safe and open before the business day begins.
$30–$35 per hour, based on experience
Peabody Landscape Group has designed, built and cared for commercial and residential landscapes in Central Ohio since 1982. We are locally owned and based on Dublin Road in Columbus. Our crews work the full year, landscape in season and snow in winter, and we would like the people we hire to stay with us.
Pay and schedule. Snow work pays $30 to $35 an hour, based on experience. This is seasonal, hourly work, and the hours follow the weather. You will be on call from November 15 through the end of the snow season. Crews report to our yard at 2253 Dublin Road in Columbus.
After winter, there is year-round maintenance and construction work for those who want to stay, paid at that crew’s rate. Year-round work depends on openings and fit and is not guaranteed.
What we offer. Hourly pay for every hour you work a storm, with overtime paid as the law requires. Company trucks, loaders, plows, push boxes, spreaders and hand equipment, maintained by our own shop. Room to grow into equipment operation, crew leadership and other skilled work as openings and experience allow.
Physical demands. This work is done outdoors in cold, snow and ice, often at night, and involves standing, walking, shoveling, lifting and climbing in and out of vehicles for long shifts. We will consider reasonable accommodations.
Offers are contingent on a driving record check and a drug test.
What the Work Includes
- Review your route, site plans, priority areas and snow stacking areas before each storm.
- Inspect your truck or loader, plow or push box, and spreader before starting, and report any defect or damage right away.
- Plow, push and de-ice assigned lots and drives without blocking walks, entrances, drains, hydrants or accessible parking.
- Coordinate with sidewalk crews and dispatch as conditions change, and return to sites for follow-up service when assigned.
- Record arrival and departure times, conditions, work completed and material used at every site.
- Refuel, clean and prepare your equipment for the next call.
What It Takes
- Hands-on commercial snow experience, either plowing with a truck or pushing with a skid steer, backhoe or wheel loader.
- A valid driver's license and a driving record that allows you to operate a company vehicle.
- Availability for storm calls at night and on weekends.
- A safe, careful approach to equipment and clear communication with your crew.
Helps, Not Required
- Experience on both trucks and loaders
- Spreader experience
- Knowledge of Columbus-area commercial sites
- Spanish/English bilingual
