Water Features in a Central Ohio landscape

Water Features in Central Ohio

Small fountains and water features for Central Ohio gardens and patios.

Sound and moving water

Fountains: pump, basin and winter shutdown

We design and install small fountains and water features for gardens and patios in Columbus and Central Ohio. The sound of moving water softens road noise and draws birds, and a fountain gives a patio or a quiet corner of the garden a focal point.

What is planned before a fountain goes in

We place the fountain, build the stone and planting around it, and run the power and water so the feature looks like part of the garden from the first day.

Most of the planning is about upkeep and winter. The pump should be easy to reach and the basin easy to refill, and splash should stay off the patio. Most small features in Central Ohio are shut down for the winter, so we lay out the basin, pump and lines to drain without disturbing the planting around them.

How We Build It

Water has to be planned before the stone is set

A fountain brings power, a pump and water into the garden, along with some upkeep. We plan all of it in the design so the feature is easy to live with.

The written proposal covers the fountain, the stonework, the planting and the power run before any work starts.

Step 1

Choose the role

We decide whether the feature is a focal point, sound element, garden crossing, patio edge, or planted accent before selecting the basin or stone.

Step 2

Plan water and power

Pump access, electrical route, refill method, overflow, splash, and winterization have to be resolved before installation.

Step 3

Set the surrounding grade

Walks, lawn panels, stone treads, beds, and drainage are shaped so water does not create muddy edges or awkward maintenance gaps.

What We Plan For

  • Fountain, small basin, water accent, or landscape around an existing feature
  • Electrical service for pumps and lighting
  • Water source, refill method, and overflow route
  • Maintenance access, seasonal cleanout, and winterization
  • Stone placement, splash, algae, and nearby planting

Stone, Fountain and Planting Options

  • Fountains, basins, and small recirculating systems
  • Natural stone, boulders, and flagstone
  • Low-voltage lighting and submersible fixtures
  • Pumps, tubing, overflow routes, and utility sleeves
  • Moisture-tolerant planting near the feature edge

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should a water feature go?

Somewhere you will hear it and see it, such as beside a patio, outside a window you often look out of or near a place you like to sit. We also check where power can reach and how the ground drains before choosing the spot.

Can a water feature be added to an existing garden or patio?

Usually, yes. A small recirculating fountain needs a power source and a level, stable base. We plan the power route so finished planting and paving are disturbed as little as possible.

Do water features attract mosquitoes?

Moving water is a poor place for mosquitoes to breed. Keeping the pump running through the season and the basin clean is the best prevention.

Do you build ponds and large waterfalls?

We evaluate that case by case. Most of the water features we build are smaller fountains and accents, along with the landscape around them.

How much maintenance does a water feature require?

It depends on the size and water volume. Small recirculating features still need pump checks, seasonal cleanout, water-level attention, and winter planning.

Can water features run year-round?

Most small features in Central Ohio are shut down for winter. Pumps, basins, and exposed water lines need a winter plan before freezing weather arrives.
