Project Narrative

How this project comes together

What the site needed

The house already had a covered area. The landscape extends that room into the yard without crowding the patio at the back door.

How the build answers it

The plan uses the covered lounge, built-in grill, square fire feature, low walls, steps, privacy planting, and open paver field as one connected terrace. Seating can shift from the porch to the fire to the chaise area while the circulation stays clear.

Location: Upper Arlington, OH
Division: Residential Design & Build
Focus: Covered Patio & Fire Feature
Project Type: Covered patio, outdoor kitchen, and fire terrace

Scope

Covered patio lounge
Built-in grill wall
Paver terrace and step transitions
Square gas fire feature
Low walls and privacy planting
Lighting at wall and patio edges

Design Notes

The covered patio stays the anchor, with the grill wall close enough to serve the seating area without crowding it.
Low walls and steps absorb the grade change from porch to lawn while defining the terrace edge.
The fire feature has its own seating zone instead of interrupting the path from house to yard.
Tall evergreen screening gives the yard privacy and a clean backdrop through winter.
